Mad respect to Mr. Rochfort and his professional approach to flight training. Thank you for the book PA46_SOP. Some good information for all pilots of any aircraft

Thanks for posting. You have a great instructing technique. I like some of the simplified callouts too. They're easy to remember. "What's next?" will always keep the pilot flying ahead of the situation.

Once again, another great example of high-quality instruction (one CFII to another). Solid process, redundancy, reliance on technology (not dependence), helping with radio work (by example), keeping it safe and simple and knowing the numbers rote. As usual, the lightest touch commands the greatest respect. Well done.

Dear Mr. Lemke,
I have known Richard W. Rochfort (Dick) for approximately twenty years. He was the initial flight instructor assigned to me at the flight school I chose and has served as my flight instructor for each of my subsequent ratings all the way through ATP. In addition, he has provided my initial PA-46 transition training as well as every recurrent training program, including BFR’s and IPC’s I’ve received over the years.
It should be self-evident that I highly value Dick as a flight instructor, if for no other reason than he has mentored me through five ratings. However, to elaborate, his knowledge of all things aviation is astounding, his attention to detail and through preparation for each lesson is unsurpassed, he passed on an immense amount of real world flying experience by placing me in controlled situations that challenged my comfort level, and has always served as my go-to source for any aviation question I’ve ever had.
I don’t believe there is a more dedicated professional flight instructor than Dick. His reputation always seems to proceed him. I can personally attest to knowledge of the high regard with which he is held in the aviation community, both in the US and abroad. Dick has striven for years to help standardize training and instruction techniques and always serves as a role model for flight instructors, and general aviation.
I highly recommend and endorse Dick for renewal of his Master Flight Instructor designation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Greetings Sir,
Just a quick note to thank you for such an impressive and thorough G1000 training video. As a G1000 instructor as well as systems instructor for the Boeing 737 it is certainly refreshing to see such a high quality training program as the one I just watched. It is very informative and the presentation pace is outstanding. It is obvious your presentation was well thought out and you certainly know your material!
Thanks again and I am pleased to have you a part of the aviation community.

Dear Dick:
I really appreciate the opportunity to have trained under you for the PA-46 Initial Flight Program. You were a delight to be around and practiced common sense procedures and techniques that can be used on a daily basis. I will work to incorporate your suggestions into my flying habits.
Although I consider myself to be an experienced Pilot, your instruction reminded me of things forgotten, things that I ought to do, and challenges that need to be mastered for Safe Flight.
I appreciate what you are doing to enhance the Safety for all of us who enjoy General Aviation. Your commitment to Safety has to be making a positive difference within the PA-46 fleet. I thoroughly enjoy reading your articles and reviewing your videos on YouTube regarding flight procedures for the PA-46 and your personal flight experiences. They are very informative for all of us.
Please feel free to use me as a reference for future clients. A call from them for a personal recommendation would be welcomed. Fly Safely- Train Often!

Dr. Jonathan Wilson 3 weeks ago Linked comment Hi Dick - I appreciate your excellent efforts in promoting flight safety. This video is a great example. For me safe flying is all about sound decision making across a multitude of variables that are in a state of constant flux. That challenge is where the fun is! I appreciated this video as it presents a changing situation and then a reasoning process that results in sound choices.
Many flying videos contain nothing more than nice pictures and happy music. That is obviously fine for some, but if I am going to use my scarce time watching flying videos I would like to use it to make me a better pilot. And your contributions do exactly that.
Keep up the good work!
Jonathan

Hey Dick,
thank you for your replay. I actually keep watching your videos, have seen most oft them actually over and over again, i like the way you teach and how much effort u put into flying/teaching. Uni and ATPL are working out just fine, finished my bachelor a couple of month ago, right now prepare for the ATPL exam (hopefully) pass all 14 tests in January. Actually quite a few questions to lern (just over 10.000 i think) but we'll get over it ;) Always having the goal to fly/own a Meridian one day:)
If you are around EDDG and/or EDVE, have some spare time and feel like meeting up send me a msg. . I always feel like getting to know people from all over the world.

Dear Mr. Rochfort,
I just like to say thank your for uploading of your videos on your website and youtube. I'm studying aeronautical engineering at Technische Universität Braunschweig (might have been to the Airport EDVE, where the Luftfahrt Bundesamt is placed, part of what you call FAA in America). At the moment I own a PPL(A) and while studding at university, i do an ATPL home study corse. I love the Meridian and hope i'll at least be able to fly one in the future or even better possess my own. I actually come from Münster, i think you have been there with a Meridian before (EDDg is the Airport). That's close to the place i'm mostly flying (EDLT Telgte).
Your are one of these types of instructors i really look for, cause you are confident with what you are doig, you know everything exactly and for me it really looks like you are enjoying teaching people and flying the meridian.
Keep on going, great stuff! Greetings from cold Germany,
Lars

Thanks for all your videos ( I've watched almost all) You've taught me more in a short time than my instructors, the pilots' guide and owners' manuals regarding GPS functionality in actual flight scenarios- something that's hard to find on these GPS units. If you are interested in requests, I would love more on the GTN 650 which is in all of the planes at my FBO. Your videos are easy to understand and to the point. Maybe I'll see you at Goose Bay someday and say: Thanks a lot!

Dear Sir,
I enjoyed my training with you a lot and look forward to next time. I believe we had discussed training your last two days in Vail but I will be unable as we have other family plans relating to spring break.
I watched all the videos of the transatlantic crossing and wanted to mention how great they are. Tons of info there. I also discovered your channel on youtube and am in process of working my way through these videos. I can promise you that when we fly again, you will be able to see a huge difference. I am creating a notes
page called "the Rochfort files" of the many pearls you teach. I was flying this weekend with a student pilot and was teaching the concepts/pneumonics/formulas etc. that I have learned from you and the videos and things clicked perfectly.
I again salute you on your devotion to the mission of making guys like me safer. Please continue to teach regardless what the xxxxx establishment may think. I can assure you that you are making a difference and in the end, that is what matters.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you again,
Brad

Dear Mr D. Rochfort
My name is David O'Connor and I live just outside Toronto Canada. Recently I watched your you-tube videos on the Piper PA-46 . I think I have watched them 20 or more times From your ILS approach into Richmond , your checkout training and all of your videos of the North Atlantic Crossing.
I just wanted to thank you for sparking my interest with flying again. I am 52 years old and I have not flown for 10 years or more. Your calmness behind the controls and your soft tone of voice made me remember why I learned to fly so long ago . I loved it and have loved it all my life. Too me it seems you are a man that just doesn't fly for the money you can make , but for the love of it. You make learning the craft of flying so easy to understand.
I learned to fly so many years ago , but a marriage separation and just taking care of my children first made me put flying on the back burner to speak . I have enjoyed watching your videos and I am very happy to say:
Flying is going to be on the front burner thanks to you!!!
David
Promising always to Fly Safe and will be training very very soon and often
God Bless

I enjoyed the trip to Scotland you took us all on with your 23 part series and hope to see more trips .
As a child I always wanted to do that or I should say dreamed to do that and hope to one day .
I hope the New Year brings you happiness and us more flying/training videos and in your words fly safe and train often.

Hi Dick,
I've watched all 23 segments of your N. Atlantic crossing (and the rest on your Youtube channel) and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the knowledge transfer, emphasis on safety, and willingness to share the information with others. Your passion for the plane really shines through. I'm just a lowly C150 flyer down in NC - but love planes and flying, and if ever awarded (or earned) enough money, I'd most certainly own a PA46 and employ your training services. What a fantastic aircraft it seems to be.

Hi Richard,
First of all I want to say thank you for the excellent flight training you did with me. On the next flights I executed my stress level was reduced at least 20% and I felt comfortable and safe even if there are things I have to work on. Sorry that you hear from me a bit late, but the next monday after you left Germany started very hectic and so was the week and the weekend... My flights took me to EDJA in bavaria and Cologne EDDK. On the way back from EDJA there was CAT III in EDDG, so that I landed on my little ex Flying Club Airfield in Osnabrück. The next day I flew the TP in an 8 minutes flight to EDDG with 400 ft overcast. There was not enough time to look to the videos on shutterfly, but i will try to do that in the next days.
Thank you again for the week I could spend with you, Richard.
Regards
Werner

Great video, really shows the workload during a missed approach. I really like the way you try to keep the pilot ahead of the airplane by making them bug the next headings they should be anticipating, that's a great tip. Also making sure the pilot is established in the climb and flying the bars before talking to ATC. Great stuff! One question I have is did the pilot forget to reduce power once leveling off? It looks like the airspeed crept up in the red near the end of the video?

Thanks for the video! I am a supervisor at Fort Worth Center (and you happen to be flying through my specialty's airspace in this clip) and we have just convened a work group to investigate ways we can improve our service. Finding better ways to inform pilots of our displayed weather was considered by our group to be our most important issue. Knowing what you see, both visually and on radar will be a great help in this effort. If you have any suggestions in this regard, I'd love to hear them.

I have gotten to know a handful of the PA46 instructors, and each one has his focus points. Dick's strong point is exactly what you need - that being systems and process flying. Dick's email is mail@rwrpilottraining.com, phone 410-435-3333. He is in MD. You should go to his web site, rwrpilottraining.com. There are series of videos, including one on flying an approach in a 430/Entegra PA46. If you watch it 3 times, you'll learn something every time. I don't know your and Dick's schedules, but if there's any way you can spend a day with him before the convention, it might be useful.

I wanted to drop you an email and let you know once again what a great time I had training with you. I learned a tremendous amount of real world information from you and for that I am thankful. The way you share and impart your knowledge along with your attitude and personality were a perfect fit for me. You were patient when I needed it and willing and able to break things apart so I could get a good grasp on the concepts. A+ all the way around.
In any case, I did as you suggested and ordered the ASA ATP Written and Oral guides today and will start to study those as soon as they arrive.
Take care and if you need any more references, you can add me to your list!!

Dear Mr. Rochfort,
As you probably know, Brian completed his Instrument practical test on Friday the 19th.
I just wanted you to know that he did a very good job, especially considering his experience level.
I know that you had a big job teaching him both the airplane and the instrument rating!
Keep doing things the way you're doing them, because it works!
Take care,

I wanted to drop you a note of thanks. I was in my 07 Meridian the other night, actual IFR with rain on the ILS into KCRQ when my pitch trim failed. I hit the auto pilot disconnect and hand flew the approach.
Upon making some calls, someone sent me your article on the magic 1500 3 amp fuse problem.
My avionics shop was dubious that was the problem but once they verified that the servo was good, they went back to your explanation. They are calling STec this morning to get permission to open the unit and replace the fuse.
Anyway - just wanted to say thanks for writing that up, it helped me out a lot!!

Thanks so much for [the training] yesterday! I sincerely appreciate your guidance and time with me reviewing my flying ability. I admire your expertise and teaching techniques. Your use of the video is an excellent tool for students no matter what level they are learning. The cockpit can be a very busy place and to have the video to review afterwards can bring back those fleeting thoughts/observations one has in the heat of the moment.
I enjoyed watching some of the videos on your CD and reading a few of the docs. I plan to watch a few more tomorrow on my way out to the west coast.
Best regards, fly safely,

Hello Dick,
… The purpose of the email was to voice my appreciation (of) the training video’s you have kindly made available on your website. I have been avidly watching them all, and found them invaluable in helping to keep me current. Sadly since landing here in Thailand in Late December, I have been grounded due to the bureaucratic red tape, only Asia is capable of producing, so your videos are all that is keeping me sane!
I hope to be airborne in the next few weeks.
So, many thanks for taking the trouble to share your invaluable experience, and take some satisfaction that they are helping an isolated PA46 pilot half way around the world.
Cheers - E

I just completed a two day recurrent training course with Dick Rochfort and wanted to pass on a very positive experience. For those of you that have worked with Dick, I am sure I am not telling you anything new. This was my first recurrent training after completing 6 months in my Mirage and I found it extremely beneficial in reinforcing what I thought I already had learned, and bringing out a lot of the finer points that can be missed in the initial training due to the volume of material you are getting. I have the Avidyne panel and Dick's knowledge of how the components work together and on setup strategies was fantastic. If you have not received any follow-on training after SimCom, you are missing a lot. I recommend him highly and will work with him again in the future.

Dick,
I want to thank you for spending the time getting David and me up to speed in the Malibu Mirage.
We thoroughly enjoyed your teaching methods and in particular, we found that your approach to teaching a "flow" for flight deck management was particularly good for us. Your ground school and in flight training is a great deal more effective than the ground school/simulator approach that I have received from other flight schools. As a result of your training, I am a more confident, more capable and safer pilot.
Thanks again, Mike Grilli – Malibu Mirage N379P

Dick,
Thank you for fitting me into your busy schedule for my first re-current training. As expected, I continue to learn valuable information from your training schedule. The tools you have to train with are above any ground base school anyone could attend. I cannot fathom using any other trainer for Mirage and Meridian than you and your company. One of your best traits is your great attitude and willingness to train. You can tell through your attitude that this is your passion and you are very good!! I hope to see you when I purchase a Meridian.
Thank you,

I have been a Mirage owner for 13 months and have very much enjoyed my aircraft. When I first purchased my Mirage, I had to decide on a type of initial training, Sim based or actual flight.
Due to my previous training, I choose actual flight training. After many phone calls, I elected to use Dick Rochfort. This decision was the best decision I could have made. I recently choose Dick for my first re-current training and was very pleased with our training.
I am not knocking sim based training, so please do not be offended! But, there is no training experience as rewarding than flying in the real world environment. Every aircraft is different and to me, this is why it is SO important to train in your aircraft in actual conditions.
I am not trying to take anything away from ground base training, but when it comes to your safety, I highly recommend you train in your aircraft.
I learned a great deal about MY particular aircraft when I trained with Dick Rochfort. Most of the information I would have never learned in a sim. Dick's passion for the Piper aircraft is unmatched and shows in his training schedule. each time I train with him, I learn more and more valuable information to keep me safe in my flying.

Hello All,
I am a new member and a new 2000 Mirage owner (N425H). Prior to buying the Mirage I was Saratoga driver (2000 PA32-301T) and from reading the posts here I see that that is not an unusual path to the PA46. … I have just finished my initial training with Richard Rochfort (whom I also found on this forum) and have logged my ten hours of solo time as required by the insurance company…there is still much to learn but I am feeling like a safe pilot. I told Richard that I had the same avionics in my previous plane so I was up to speed in that regard. He must have laughed; I am sure he has heard that before. He showed me numerous things that I was either afraid to try in the past or just did not know were possible…..and his approach to a professional level of flying was inspiring….

Dick,
I wanted to take a second and personally thank you for the work you did with Jason and I. Your program is second to none and overall knowledge of the PA46 (Papa Alpha 46) is incredible. I am a firm believer that when you are in an instructor environment it is not always what you know, but how you convey the information, and you obviously have a firm grasp of how to teach. Thanks once again for your hard work and let’s stay in touch.

Dick,
I wanted to take a moment and let you know how much I appreciate the service you provided me this past January. .. you were very professional and very easy to communicate with. As you know, we had to reschedule a few times due to the aircraft awaiting parts for completion of its annual and you were always accommodating.
As we met in California for delivery of the aircraft you were very professional and very friendly. I was easily put to rest about who I was training with and looked forward to my initial training. Once we started our training, I was very pleased with your program and the way we completed the initial training process. Your professionalism and experience in this type of aircraft is the best. I had no idea that I would learn so much about the Piper Mirage and its systems.
During the initial training, my wife and I enjoyed the experience and friendship built over the 5 days we spent together. Your company, program and personality are the best in the industry. ..
Thank you very much for your great service. I will be back for all of my required training.

I did my initial with Dick about 3 months ago, transitioning out of an A-36. I was blown away by how much he knew about my plane -- not just the PA-46 but also the KFC-150 AP and my brand new Garmin units. I had both in my Bonanza and wrongly thought I could make them "sing and dance." After my time with Dick I'm starting to get them to hum, we'll work on the rest of it during my recurrent. I'd recommend the guy whole-heartedly. His broad range as a pilot with an engineering background makes for a darn effective CFI.

My father-in-law and I had Dick Rochfort for our training. I had the initial and my father-in-law had the recurrent. He was very knowledgeable on the Mirage and answered all questions we had concerning the airplane. If for some reason he did not have the answer right away, he was sure to make a phone call and find out for us. He was attentive to our needs and timeline and was available to take our phone calls if we had any questions. I have personally called him a couple of times once our training was complete to ask a few questions and he responded to my phone call in a timely manner.

He did my initial transition to the Mirage from a V35B Bonanza a little over a year ago. He then did my recurrent training after the MMOPA convention in October.
Besides being a knowledgeable instructor, the thing I really appreciate about Dick is that he is able to determine what you already have pretty well mastered and what areas you need to focus on (even though you may THINK you have them mastered!), and work at a customized pace for you. I have had instructors in the past who bored me at some times and overwhelmed me at others. Not so with Dick.
I might also add that his knowledge of systems, including many different types of avionics, is complemented by his strong knowledge of the engines and the latest, most up-to-date techniques for safe, efficient operation. Smart guy.
I sent him a thank-you email for his good instruction about a month and a half after my initial. I had a turbocharger failure in the mid-twenties over the mountains at night with three passengers, two of which were new to flying. Good training and a cool head helped me diagnose the problem, take the appropriate actions, and land safely, without rattling the passengers. Dick's thorough instruction of systems and emergency training helped me deal with the whole incident with an appropriate degree of confidence and keep an out-of-the-ordinary situation for a new Malibu pilot from becoming a bad news report. The passengers all still fly with me and tell others how well the memorable night went.

I began with Dick when I purchased a Mirage transitioning up from a Cessna 182 so was required to fly 250 hours with him, so I probably have more experience than others. After moving up to a Meridian I flew again with Dick for another 25+ hours or so.
I emphatically endorse all the good things that were said about Dick. He is extremely knowledgeable about airplanes, avionics, regulations, etc. But what sets him apart is his ability to impart savvy advice about handling complicated practical situations; challenging weather, difficult ATC personnel, emergencies, etc. His sensible, no-nonsense approaches have proved invaluable to me and I feel fortunate to have been able to train with him.
Dick is also highly professional, on-time, organized and prepared.
He is absolutely first class.

Dear Mr D.
God Bless

Hi Dick,
I've watched all 23 segments of your N. Your passion for the plane really shines through. Hi Richard,
First of all I want to say thank you for the excellent flight training you did with me.

Subject: Hello from Thailand
Hello Dick,
… The purpose of the email was to voice my appreciation (of) the training video’s you have kindly made available on your website.

Thank you,
Jim Hamilton - Malibu Mirage - N561C

“… Based on a couple of recommendations, I asked Dick Rochfort to do (my training). ( www.rwrpilottraining.com ) I spent night and day with him for 5 days and then started flying on my own. It was a great experience. He introduced me to a whole new method of flying. It was much more structured and thorough than anything I'd done before. I'm still trying to meet the standards he introduced.…”

Dick,
I wanted to take a second and personally thank you for the work you did with Jason and I.

Jim Hamilton – Malibu Mirage - N561C

I took training with Dick a couple of months ago. He's one of the new breed of trainers who is actually able to integrate all the new electronics into your flying.
